Giants Eye Key Additions in 2027 NFL Draft During Bye Week

Giants Eye Key Additions in 2027 NFL Draft During Bye Week

As the New York Giants head into their bye week, the focus shifts to how they can bolster their roster in the upcoming 2027 NFL Draft. With a record of 4-2-1 in the 2026 season, the Giants currently hold the No. 26 pick, a position that has become familiar for a team that has picked in the top 10 of the NFL Draft in nine of the last 12 years. This draft presents an opportunity for the Giants to make strategic improvements that could reshape their future.

The Giants' backfield features three solid running backs: Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary. However, all three are best suited as change-of-pace backs rather than primary ball-carriers. Whether it’s Jaxson Dart or JJ McCarthy under center next season, the team will benefit from having a true RB1. Ole Miss' Kewan Lacey could be that player. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 205 pounds, Lacey brings an explosive, home-run-hitting style that the current roster lacks. His dynamic running ability could add a new dimension to the Giants' offense, allowing them to stretch defenses in ways they currently cannot.

While Lacey has been criticized for his power and pass-catching abilities, the Giants have other backs capable of covering those areas. If they retain Skattebo and Tracy, Lacey can focus on what he does best: breaking off significant yardage gains. This strategic addition could transform the Giants' offensive approach.

Defensively, the Giants also need to address their secondary. Cornerback Deonte Banks has been performing well, but the team could use an upgrade over Dru Phillips and Greg Newsome. BYU's Evan Johnson is a potential target. At 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, Johnson has demonstrated solid performance, allowing a mere 43.2 passer rating against him this season. He could serve as a valuable rotational player or even a starter, enhancing the Giants' defensive capabilities.

Giants seek defensive tackle depth

In the trenches, the Giants could benefit from adding depth at defensive tackle. CJ Fite from Arizona State, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 310 pounds, is recognized for his run-stuffing abilities. With 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks this season, Fite could provide the Giants with the strength they need to disrupt opposing offenses.

Addressing safety concerns in the draft

The safety position also requires attention. Javn Holland has been a standout, ranking fourth among all safeties according to PFF grades, while Jason Pinnock is not far behind at 19th. However, Tyler Nubin's struggles, ranking at 84th, indicate a need for additional depth and potential starting talent. The PFF mock draft simulator suggests the Giants could target safeties with their two sixth-round picks. Terry Moore, who had a strong season at Duke before injuries sidelined him, and Rod Moore Jr., a captain at Michigan, are both players who could provide significant value if they can return to form.

The Giants' draft strategy will be crucial as they look to improve their roster and compete in the coming seasons. With a mix of offensive and defensive needs, the 2027 NFL Draft could be a pivotal moment for the franchise as they seek to build a more competitive team.
